Race for the top of Cartmel’s leaderboard is on as final meeting looms into view

05/08/2019

THE finishing straight is in sight for those vying to become Cartmel’s top trainer and jockey of 2019 as the final meeting of the year looms into view.

Cumbria-based Dianne Sayer is currently leading the field in the trainer’s league table ahead of second placed Donald McCain.

Now, the heat is on to secure vital points during the remaining racedays – Saturday August 24 and Monday August 26 – in a bid to take the win.

The jockey’s championship is a different race altogether on course this year with Brian Hughes storming ahead on points early in the season.

In second place is Lily Pinchin – winner of this year’s Banks Lyon Lady Jockey’s Race on Saturday, July 20 – followed by Richard Johnson, James Bowen and Conor O’Farrell.

Cartmel Racecourse manager Geraldine McKay said she was looking forward to the August Holiday Meeting where the titles for the year would finally be decided.

“It’s been a fantastic season so far at Cartmel and there is clearly lots of excitement still to come over our two days of racing on August 24 and 26.

“Dianne Sayer enjoyed a fabulous win at Ascot a week ago and is at the top of our trainer’s leaderboard at the moment with just the holiday meeting still to take place.

“And with Brian Hughes sitting at the top of the Jockey’s Challenge, we’re all looking forward to a thrilling end to 2019.”
