Experts get set to share tips and insight ahead of Cheltenham Festival

10/02/2020

A PANEL of industry experts are lining up to offer horse racing enthusiasts across the region an exclusive insight into the top runners and riders at this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

The four-day meeting takes place every March and is renowned as the highlight of the world’s jump racing calendar.

Now, four top flight racing experts are set to share their fascinating tips and predictions at Cartmel Racecourse on Wednesday, March 4 – a week ahead of the famous National Hunt celebration.

Geraldine McKay, Cartmel Racecourse manager, explained the annual Cheltenham Preview heightened excitement levels in the run up to the festival.

“Whether you are a serious student of form or someone who simply enjoys a trip to the races, our preview event is great fun for all,” she said.

“We are very lucky to have a truly fantastic line up on the panel this year, with each expert able to bring a unique perspective to the table as they share their picks for every race.

“It’s also a wonderful, relaxed social event for anyone who enjoys horse racing.”

Predictions for every race at the Cheltenham Festival will be covered during Cartmel’s preview evening, held over a two course supper in the Louis Roederer Restaurant in the Grandstand from 7pm.

The discussion will include hot topics like the battle for the Grade I Champion Hurdle and the favourites lining up to take home the revered 2020 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The panel will be made up of respected commentator and racing journalist John Sexton as well as form expert Marten Julien, a well known racing analyst, author and advisor.

Cartmel trainer James Moffatt – one of few people in the UK to have both ridden and trained a Cheltenham winner – will bring a unique insight into this year’s runners and riders.

And leading jump jockey and Scottish Grand National winner Sean Quinlan will use his experience in the saddle to guide his selections for the world famous race meeting.

Geraldine added: “The Cartmel Racecourse team always look forward to the preview evening, it’s such great fun and there is even the chance to win two tickets to the Thursday fixture at Cheltenham.

“It’s also wonderful to see the Louis Roederer Restaurant filled with people. It’s a welcome sign that our new season of racing right here at Cartmel is on the way.”
