Hadwins Motor Group Mares Hurdle Series

Stuart Crawford, with five points on the board from a third and an unplaced runner in previous rounds, took the lead overall when A Touch Of Sparkle won the penultimate round of the Hadwins Motor Group Mares Hurdle Series on Saturday, July 22.

The seven-year-old battled on bravely in the hands of Racheal Blackmore to see off Miss Mash, who had gone head-to-head with the winner from the final flight in the hands of champion jockey Richard Johnson.

The 12 points collected by Crawford mean he has now got 17 points in this year’s competition and is five ahead of Peter Atkinson and Iain Jardine and so in pole position with just one more round to go at the August Bank Holiday fixture.

The Hadwins Mares Series carries a bonus prize of £1,000 to the yard accumulating most points over what is normally a five-race series, but was reduced to four this year after the scheduled first race was lost to the weather on the opening day of the season.
