Award Winning Cartmel

Cartmel scooped a prestigeous Showcase Award at the RCA's prize giving night for Corporate Social Responsability. The award recognises the degree to which the racecourse is integrated with the medieval village - an important part of the attraction for many racegoers.

The races inevitably have a significant impact on the village, given the large crowds  that attend. However, the racecourse management team employ a traffic management system and litter-pickers to ameliorate some of the the less beneficial impacts, while encouraging trade with local suppliers to boost the local economy.

The Unsworth Yard Brewery (Cartmel), Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, Furness Fish & Game and Willow Water all have tradestands at the races.

Meanwhile, several local sports clubs and the scouts help at the races and receive funds towards club activities as a result. The Cartmel Football Club, Cartmel Cricket Club and the Scouts are all based in the centre of the racecourse - as is the annual Agricultural Show.

The local schools also benefit from use of the racecourse - including the Primary School who use the area for their forest school lessons.
