James Moffatt broke into the list of Britain’s top ten trainers courtesy of his win with Altruism in the Totepool Cumbria Crystal Cup at Cartmel. The £27,000 race was Moffatt’s fifth win at Cartmel this season.

Cartmel geared up for big day of the season

Cartmel is geared up for one of its major days of the season on Saturday when the most valuable race run at the racecourse, the £27,000 Totescoop6 Cumbria Crystal Cup Handicap Hurdle will take centre-stage.

The purpose of this race is to promote competition and fraternity between amateur jockeys from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Trainers with runners in this race are therefore encouraged to put up an amateur jockey from their home-nation – so a Welsh Trainer should (as a preference) put up a Welsh jockey, a Scottish trainer a Scottish jockey, an English trainer and English jockey and an Irish trainer and Irish Jockey.

Sir Tom Jones will be performing live at Cartmel Races on Friday 30th June, in the evening following racing in the afternoon. Tickets for the event, including camping packages, will be available online from 9.00am on Monday 6th March.

New: Season-long Camping Package

Regular campers will be able to save money at Cartmel Races next Summer by purchasing a new season-long camping package. The season ticket will include camping at all nine 2017 racedays plus two annual membership passes.

Camping packages for whole weekends (for example four night including both racedays of the BBQ meeting) will go on sale on 17th January, while individual racedays (2 night camping packages) will go on sale on 14th February.
