BBQs at the Ready

13/07/2014

And there will be plenty of both over the two days with the Crystal Hurdle supported by the £10,000 Lady Riders Hurdle, the Hadwins Novices Hurdle and the Louis Roederer Handicap Chase on Saturday and another valuable card on Monday including the £10,000 Weatherbys Bank Hurdle.

In the barbecue stakes, there are prizes on both Saturday and Monday for the most stylish barbecue on course while punters who want to get involved, but don’t have their own barbecue can take part in the on-course competition Ready Steady Q organised by the International BBQ Network.

And for those who do have the set-up, Cartmel has once again teamed up with Flookborough-based Furness Fish Poultry & Game Supplies to provide the perfect barbecue pack.

The family-run company, which has been potting the famous Morecambe Bay shrimps for over 30 years, prides itself on sourcing and supplying high quality Cumbrian game.

For just £24, Cartmel racegoers can pre-order BBQ packs made up of four Venison burgers, four chicken kebabs, four pork sausages and four rump stakes which they can collect from the Furness Fish Poultry and Game outlet on the day any time after the gates open at 11am.

Clare Worrall of Furness Fish Poultry and Game said “We have been attending Cartmel Races for many years and the midsummer BBQ Race Days are always one of the most popular events.

“It gives us a great opportunity to show off our fabulous game produce, and while we remain famous for our Morecambe Bay Potted Shrimps we are also really proud to be offering top quality wild game from the estates of Cumbria”.

“The packs are very popular as they include burgers with a distinctive flavour, chicken kebabs as well as Angus steaks and pork sausages from our own farm in the Forest of Bowland”.

She added:”Game is not only wild, natural and free range, but it is also low in cholesterol and high in protein making it one of the healthiest meats available. Our BBQ packs offer a great introduction to game meat and poultry for customers who have yet to experience the amazing taste and benefits of it for themselves”.

BBQ packs can be ordered by phone on 015395 59544 or on-line at www.morecambebayshrimps.com or selected as an option when purchasing tickets for the races on-line at www.cartmel-racecourse.co.uk

Racegoers will also be able to enjoy the Seafood Bar serving the famous Morecambe Bay Brown Shrimps as well as Scottish Smoked Salmon, poached salmon, local dressed crab, prawns and local lobster.
