McCoy Stars at Cartmel

27/05/2014

Tony McCoy, who rode two winners from his two rides on Saturday, was quickly on the mark again with Never Never for top trainer Donald McCain in the Rowleys Catering At Cartmel Four Years Old Novices Hurdle and the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Clues And Arrows in the Tony Connell Memorial Novices Hurdle.

Clues And Arrows’ victory was a happy consolation prize for trainer John Wade, whose runner Walser finished fourth as he has a share in the winner with owners Peter Pillar and Eric Crooks.

“Jonjo’s wife Jacqui put the three of us together when the horse came over from Ireland and I am glad she did as he has now won his last three races and is on the upgrade” said Wade.

McCoy completed his three-timer and his second winner on the day for McCain with another impressive performance on Any Given Day, who made all to beat the fast finishing Maybe I Wont in the closing Swan Hotel & Spa Handicap Hurdle.

“My wife is some trainer” exclaimed former Grand National-winning jockey Tony Dobbin after Jurisdiction shrugged off an absence of more than a year to win the Burlington Stone Grand Veterans Handicap Chase.

Wilson Renwick took Jurisdiction to the front from the start and the 10-year-old kept battling away to repel all challengers. It looked as though he had thrown it away when blundering badly at the second last to hand the advantage to Bradley.

However, Bradley repaid the compliment with an even worse mistake at the final fence which handed the lead back to Jurisdiction and this time Rose Dobbin’s kept on well to hold Rebecca’s Choice with something in hand.

Renwick was completing a 29-1 double after winning the Bet On All UK Racing With Totepool Handicap Chase on the Ann Hamilton-trained Edmund.
